Xelect appoints Dr Marie Smedley as Head of Breeding Programmes

After a period of significant growth, aquaculture genetics specialist Xelect has recently announced the appointment of Dr. Marie Smedley to the new post of Head of Breeding Programmes.

Dr Smedley, who was the first Breeding Programme Manager to join Xelect 6 years ago, has considerable experience running selective breeding programmes for a wide range of species, including salmon, barramundi and yellowtail kingfish. Marie was appointed after an extensive recruitment process.

Xelect’s COO Chris Wallard commented “This is a very well-deserved promotion for Marie. This is a key role for us, leading the development of 30 breeding programmes, in 12 different countries for 13 different species. With such broad experience, Marie is the perfect candidate”.

Dr Smedley commented “It’s an honour to lead such an excellent group of people. We’re committed to transforming the commercial success of our customers by delivering incredible production performance.  The diversity of species and operations we work with, together with the constant evolution of our digital tools, software and processes mean never a dull day goes by. I’m looking forward to focusing on the strategic development of our breeding programme operations that will further benefit the team, most importantly, our customers.”

Marie’s promotion also means that Xelect will be recruiting a new Breeding Programme Manager to join the team. You can find details here.
