Xelect receives UK Government award for export success

We’re pleased to announce that Xelect has been recognised in the inaugural “Made in the UK, Sold to the World Awards”, which celebrate outstanding examples of UK small businesses exporting around the world.

Xelect was one of 3 Agriculture, Food and Drink companies awarded ‘highly commended’ status by the UK government, alongside Fever Tree Drinks and Intelligent Growth Solutions.

Xelect was praised for our work in providing advanced genetic management services for the aquaculture industry around the world. From our custom-built laboratory in St Andrews, we manage over 18 different selective breeding programmes, covering 12 species in 10 countries.

Kemi Badenoch, Business and Trade secretary, said: “We’re proud of our British exporters and these awards rightly highlight some fantastic businesses punching above their weight and selling UK-made products around the world. I hope they serve as inspiration to others looking to get onto the exporting ladder.”

CEO of Xelect, Ian Johnston, said: “Aquaculture is the fastest growing sector of animal protein production with aquatic species offering a sustainable, cost-effective solution to meet increasing worldwide demand. Xelect has a global outlook and a focus on technological innovation serving established markets in Europe and the Americas whilst also contributing to an explosion of growth in aquaculture across S E Asia and Africa.”

UK Government Minister for Scotland and Exports Malcolm Offord added: “It’s fantastic to see Scottish businesses recognised for their excellence in such a broad spectrum of sectors. The world-wide trading success of these small firms is testament to all the hard work they’ve put in growing their businesses on the global stage. I’d like to congratulate all the winners and wish them continued success for the future.”
