We had a busy and productive visit to Trondheim, Norway, for AquaNor 2015, where we hosted a stand for the second time. There was a real sense of energy and exciting business opportunity across the aquaculture industry.

We attracted considerable interest in our groundbreaking new markers for increasedmuscle fibre numberin Atlantic salmon. Following some very successful evaluations this year we are now in discussions with several major breeding companies with a view to bringing the marker selected lines into production in the near future.

We had an encouraging number of inquiries for our gene expressionservice, mostly from large feed companies who use qPCR to evaluate the biological effects of diet formulations.

There can be no doubt that genetic analysis is becoming a routine part of the aquaculture cycle across a wide range of species, and is no longer the preserve of large companies and high value species. Having spoken with several new-start hatchery operations and various smaller producers it is clear that we will be able to provide valuable assistance with breeding programme management and stock selection to a wide range of businesses across the industry.
